About Us

Bexley School of Dance offer professional dance training to children in and around the borough of Bexley. The Bexley Studios are located in School Lane, Welling, DA16 1TT. Just off of Welling High Street. Perfect location for children situated in the areas of Blackfen, Sidcup, Bexley, Bexleyheath, Barnehurst and Welling.
Bexley School of Dance are committed to providing the most entertaining and innovative dance classes to children of all ages from 0-80 years old. Using the most up to date dance styles and inspirational teachers Bexley School of Dance strive to be the leaders in our field. Please come along for a taster session to see for yourself.
Bexley School of Dance team are all members of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.
Our highly qualified and experienced teachers have been performing/teaching for over 20 years, they have professional experience at all levels of dance, and regularly attend further training and education to continue to be up to date with current methods of teaching. Bexley School of Dance enter children for vocational qualification exams, major imperial society exams and regularly enter children into national dance festivals and competitions.
Our teachers have DBS certificates (New name for CRB checks) and have I.S.T.D. teaching qualifications, including Health and Safety and Anatomy.

Katie Kyrke-Smith (BA Hons, DDI)
 
Kate graduated from Bird College in 1999 with a 2.1 BA Hons degree in Dance and Theatre Performance. 
During her professional performing years, Katie toured the world with the Irish tap dance company "Spirit of the Dance". Her love of musical theatre and travel saw her become the Dance Captain of The Stadium Theatre Company onboard the "Oriana". Upon returning to England Kate trained at Rose Bruford Acting College, joined "One World" on it's UK Tour and became a member of the Masquerade Theatre Company performing in many theatre productions. In 2005 Kate began teaching children dance and drama full time. In her spare time she continues to choreograph (being entrusted with large projects such as, holding auditions for Hammond Productions and being resident choreographer for "Coutts" London Jewellery Week). She has adjudicated at local dance festivals and works as Master of Ceremonies for Sony Music, presenting at various London Music Events.
 
Kim Lee (Dip. DDI)
 
Kim trained at Bird College, where she was awarded a three year scholarship. She graduated with a Distinction for a Diploma in Dance and Performing Arts.
After graduating she took part in many shows travelling Europe and the Mediterranean, such as ‘The Commitments’ and ‘Blues Brothers’. Upon returning to England, Kim joined the Merlin Entertainments Company at Madame Tussauds, dancing, singing, presenting shows, and taking on the role of dance captain and choreographer. Kim has performed in many fashion shows, music videos and corporate events over her professional career and had the pleasure of working with the famous choreographers and hip-hop group "Identity". Kim is a qualified ISTD teacher in Ballet, Modern and Tap. Her forté is in street dance, which she delivers with a Funky and Fresh style.
 
Katie Sweeting (Dip. DDI)
 
Kate trained at Bird College, graduating with a Diploma in Dance and Performing Arts. Her musical theatre credits include playing Dulcie in 'The Boyfriend', Red in 'Into the woods' 'Dick Whittington' at the Hackney Empire, and Columbina in 'Commedia del 'Atre' for Dance Theatre in Education touring the UK. Film/T.V. credits include BBC's Joy to the World at the Royal Albert Hall. She is ISTD trained and has DDI qualifications in all genres but specialises in Ballet. Kate trained alongside Katie Kyrke-Smith at Doreen Birds, performing, teaching and choreographing with her on many occasions over the last 25 years, they have come to realise that they have very similar ethos and work ethic. Kate studied Anatomy, Psychology and Physiology during her studious years and she also has 3 children aged 5, 9 and 13 years old, giving her the perfect nurturing qualities to bring out the best in every dancer.
